Lecturer of Philosophy, University of Leeds
My main interests are in theoretical ethics, especially in theories of practical reasons. I am currently working on a number of papers on the relation of values and reasons. I am also interested in action theory, moral psychology, normative ethics, and in political philosophy and philosophy of law.
Before I came to Leeds (in 2004) I was an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, held visiting positions at Columbia University and at Barnard College, New York, had a visiting fellowship from Balliol College, Oxford, and was a faculty fellow at the Murphy Institute, Tulane University, New Orleans.
In 2008/9, I am going to be a faculty fellow of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University.
I am the Director of the Centre for Ethics and Metaethics (CEM) at the philosophy department at Leeds.
